About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Java Developer to join a high-performing technology team responsible for delivering and evolving enterprise-grade applications.
Working closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, and delivery teams, you’ll provide technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle while remaining hands-on with design and development. You’ll help shape engineering standards, influence architecture decisions, mentor developers, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, testing, and support of enterprise applications
• Drive software engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural consistency
• Develop scalable microservices and APIs using Java and Spring Boot
• Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka
• Work closely with Product Owners and Solution Architects on solution design
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching across development teams
• Lead code reviews and contribute to technical decision-making
• Support the ongoing evolution of development practices, frameworks, and tooling
• Contribute to Agile delivery and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience

• Extensive commercial experience developing enterprise applications with Java
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot
• Commercial experience with React
• Experience designing and supporting Kafka-based event-driven architectures
• Previous experience leading development teams or acting as a technical lead
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design
• Experience working closely with Solution Architects and business stakeholders
• Deep understanding of Agile delivery methodologies
• Angular experience would be highly beneficial, as the organisation is currently transitioning from Angular to React
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills
• Ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on with development activities
