About the Organisation

Our client is a well‑established technology business with a growing data and analytics capability, supporting complex, high‑volume software platforms used globally. With a strong investment in data, insights, and AI, the organisation is forming a new dedicated team to modernise how data is ingested, processed, and consumed across the business. The Auckland‑based team works in a collaborative, product‑driven environment with a strong emphasis on engineering quality and long‑term platform evolution.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on senior Software Engineer role with strong data experience. The role is not a traditional Data Engineer position. Instead, it requires a backend engineer who understands data deeply — building services, pipelines, and platforms that make large datasets consumable for analytics and AI use cases. Your focus will span backend development, data pipelines, and infrastructure, with responsibility for driving technical practices and delivering scalable, future-ready solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Set and apply engineering standards, best practices, and architectural decisions
  • Design and build backend services and data platforms using Go (or other OO languages) and AWS
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines and data warehousing solutions
  • Work with large-scale datasets across thousands of databases
  • Implement event-driven data processing using Kafka
  • Manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Partner with stakeholders to enable data consumption, insights, trend analysis, and AI-driven use cases

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong backend engineering background (Go preferred; .NET or java welcome with willingness to work in Go)
  • Solid experience working with data platforms, pipelines, and warehousing
  • AWS (essential)
  • Kafka or similar streaming technologies
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Experience working with large‑scale, distributed datasets
  • Proven ability to balance hands‑on delivery with technical leadership

Domain & Data Focus

  • Data sourced from practice management software
  • Very large datasets (e.g. thousands of databases)
  • Focus on making data easy to consume for analytics and AI
  • Enable trend analysis such as age‑related conditions and longitudinal insights
  • Strong long‑term opportunity to shape AI‑driven data products

Benefits

  • Attractive annual incentive
  • Hybrid working environment (3 days in the office 2 WFH)
  • Quality tech equipment for work and personal use
  • Hybrid working with an excellent office space
  • Fully subsidised Southern Cross Health Insurance
  • Part‑subsidised parking
