Our client is a not-for-profit organisation located in Wellington CBD and they provide the infrastructure, security, and support to NZ domains.

About the Role

As a Senior System Administrator your role involves supporting day-to-day operations which includes provisioning, installation/configuration, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. You’ll ensure that all network, security, and operational aspects align with organisational standards and service level agreements.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is vital for this position.
  • Installing and configuring hardware, services, storage, etc., within data centres, ensuring alignment with standards and project/operational needs.
  • Available for an on-call roaster, once in 4 or 5 weeks.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot networking and operating system issues.
  • Apply patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Conducting research and suggesting inventive, and when feasible, automated methods for system administration duties.

About Your Experience

  • Proficient in managing Linux servers, such as Ubuntu and RHEL, for over 5 years.
  • Extensive background as a Systems Administrator, including over 5 years of experience and 2+ years in a Senior role.
  • Skilled in on-premises containerization with platforms like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Familiarity with various storage systems and concepts, including Block, Object, VMware VSAN, and Ceph.
  • Experienced in designing and implementing on-premises solutions.

Desirable

  • Computer networks and concepts, i.e. VLAN, EVPN-VXLAN, BGP (Juniper).
  • Database operations i.e. postgresql, mysql.
  • Configuration management systems, i.e. Ansible.
  • Visualisation platforms and concepts, i.e. VMware vSphere.
  • Operational knowledge of DNS and DNSSEC.
  • Open source configuration and version control tools. i.e. git.
