ABOUT THE ROLE
The Principal Enterprise Architect is the most senior architecture leader within the organisation, responsible for defining and governing the enterprise architecture framework to ensure technology decisions are aligned with strategic objectives, operational needs, and long-term sustainability.    
This role translates business and digital strategy into enterprise architecture principles, standards, integration approaches, and technology roadmaps that guide investment decisions and shape the future evolution of technology capabilities. Acting as the key bridge between business and technology stakeholders, the Principal Enterprise Architect provides strategic leadership, architectural governance, and expert advice to ensure solutions are fit for purpose, scalable, secure, and aligned to organisational priorities.    
The role leads the development and maturity of the architecture practice, establishing frameworks, standards, and governance processes while mentoring and enabling a team of architects to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes. Working closely with executive leaders, project delivery teams, operational teams, vendors, and governance groups, the Principal Enterprise Architect ensures the technology landscape evolves in a deliberate, well-managed, and future-focused manner.    
As a trusted strategic advisor, the Principal Enterprise Architect evaluates emerging technologies, develops technology roadmaps, provides investment recommendations, and fosters strong stakeholder relationships to maximise the value of technology across the organisation.    

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Enterprise Architecture Leadership: Significant experience in enterprise architecture within large, complex organisations, with a proven ability to develop, implement, and govern enterprise architecture frameworks, principles, and standards.  
  • Architecture Governance & Strategic Decision Making: Demonstrated experience leading architecture governance, evaluating technology solutions, and ensuring investment decisions align with organisational strategy and architecture principles.  
  • Technology Roadmap Development: Proven ability to develop and maintain enterprise technology roadmaps that connect business strategy with technology capability, investment planning, and future-state architecture.  
  • Cloud, Integration & Data Architecture Expertise: Strong understanding of cloud architecture (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), integration patterns and technologies (APIs, REST, event-driven architecture), and modern data architecture principles.  
  • Leadership & Team Development: Experience leading, mentoring, and developing architecture teams, including establishing operating models, architecture practices, standards, and ways of working that drive high performance.  
  • Executive Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders, governance boards, and business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.  
  • Strategic Thinking & Emerging Technology Awareness: Strong analytical and strategic capability, including assessing emerging technologies, identifying opportunities and risks, and providing pragmatic recommendations that support organisational goals and future growth.
