About the Role
Joining our public sector client as Senior Systems Administrator on a 12 mo. Fixed Term Contract, you’ll play an important role in enabling our client to ensure access to an effective education system for learners across Aotearoa New Zealand. You’ll be the most senior hands-on technical resource in the team, providing critical continuity and leadership across the systems environment during a fixed-term period. This role is vital to keeping systems running smoothly and securely while mentoring a junior administrator and supporting delivery of key projects.
You’ll bring depth of experience and confidence engaging with vendors, leading incident response when required, and knowing when to escalate or seek support. This is a busy environment with a mid-flight migration to Windows 11 and a range of Microsoft and Fortinet technologies in play.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Ensure continuity of systems and services across a broad infrastructure environment
- Provide support and mentoring to a Junior Systems Administrator
- Maintain and manage Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure, and Fortinet systems
- Contribute to the Windows 11 migration and provide support as needed
- Work directly with vendors across licensing, SIEM, and project delivery
- Proactively escalate issues and support incident response as required
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience working on infrastructure projects and BAU support
- Strong communication and knowledge-sharing skills
- Confident working independently and knowing when to ask for help
- Comfortable managing vendors and recognising when to engage external support
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure, Fortinet, and Windows 11
- Self-starter mindset – you’ll be the go-to person for technical hands-on support
