About the Role

As Director of Software Engineering, you will lead a significant portion of the software portfolio, overseeing strategy, product alignment, software architecture, and delivery across the globe, focusing on an Auckland based team of 60-70 people.

You will work closely with the VP of Engineering and other senior leaders to modernise the global engineering environment, shape new product development and champion the delivery of scalable SaaS solutions that power critical customer facing tools.

This role requires a rare blend of hands-on technical expertise, architectural leadership and strong commercial acumen, and will be responsible for making high-level decisions on priorities, investment, and innovation across a diverse technology stack.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy, delivery, and structure of various software solutions
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Product, Design and Commercial to align delivery with customer and business goals
  • Mentor and guide a large team of tech leads and engineers, promoting coding excellence and modern engineering practices
  • Oversee the modernisation of development practices, enterprise architecture, and DevOps tooling
  • Make informed decisions on technical priorities, feature roadmaps, and systems integration based on product, customer, and financial factors

Skills and Experience Required

  • 10+ years in hands-on software engineering, including 5+ years leading large-scale teams (200+ engineers)
  • Strong technical background and hands-on coding ability across multiple languages and environments
  • Proven leadership in large-scale development environments, with a focus on agility, security, and data-heavy systems
  • Experience with DevOps, Cloud, Big Data, and integration-heavy architectures
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to prioritise development based on product and financial goals
  • Clear communicator, open to challenge and capable of driving engineering culture and innovation
