A highly respected organisation leading significant, high-impact initiatives focused on enhancing services and improving user experiences across the Auckland region is seeking a Product Owner – Data Governance to lead and shape the delivery of data governance initiatives across the business.
 
This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of data management principles, governance frameworks, and the ability to translate complex data needs into actionable strategies that reduce risk and improve data quality, privacy, and trust.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and prioritise data governance backlogs and roadmaps
  • Engage with stakeholders across varying levels of data maturity
  • Drive uplift in data management practices through people, process, and technology
  • Evaluate and manage vendor solutions and data tooling
  • Ensure alignment with compliance, security, and regulatory frameworks

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of data governance, ownership, stewardship, and modelling
  • Experience with data management practices, lineage, master data, and data protection
  • Familiarity with tools like Informatica, Collibra, Atlan, Alation, and cloud data platforms
  • Skilled in managing data governance roadmaps, backlogs, and prioritising based on risk
  • Knowledge of GDPR, PII, and regulatory compliance in data environments
  • Awareness of content management and archiving tools (e.g. OpenText, SharePoint, Purview)
  • Ability to identify data risks and engage stakeholders across varying data maturity levels
  • Vendor and stakeholder management experience
  • DAMA DMBOK knowledge or certification (desirable)
