About the Organisation
Our client is a well-established, proudly NZ-owned bank undergoing a bold transformation of its core banking capabilities. With strong funding secured and a clear vision in place, they’re exploring how to modernise and evolve from their current Jade-based core system—creating future-ready services around product, integration and event streaming.
About the Role This is a contract Solutions Architect role with a clear tactical purpose: to help get a greenfield initiative off the ground. You’ll work closely with senior technical stakeholders to establish key architectural patterns, validate solution options and lay the groundwork for longer-term hires. Your focus will be integration, product-aligned solution architecture, and shaping the foundational tech needed to support change around the core banking system.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Shape solution architecture for new services around the existing Jade core
- Define integration patterns and event streaming approaches (Kafka/Azure)
- Architect secure, scalable APIs and lead discussions with development teams
- Identify key information flows across the bank’s ecosystem
- Influence product direction with clear, pragmatic design guidance
Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience in solution/product architecture and integration design
- Strong knowledge of event streaming (Kafka or Azure Event Hub preferred)
- Hands-on API architecture and microservices design experience
- Background in Java/Spring Boot, GitHub, CI/CD and DevOps tooling
- Experience working in greenfields/start-up style projects with high ambiguity
- Banking or core banking system exposure (especially Jade) is a plus, not a must
