About the Company
This organisation plays a critical role in New Zealand’s research and innovation ecosystem by providing secure, high-performance connectivity and services to universities, Crown Research Institutes, and public research organisations. The culture is mission-driven, inclusive, and forward-thinking — ideal for professionals who want to make a meaningful impact in the research and education sector.
About the Role
I’m partnering exclusively with a national organisation that plays a critical role in supporting New Zealand’s research and innovation ecosystem. They’re on the lookout for an experienced Cybersecurity Manager to lead and uplift their cybersecurity program — someone who can confidently bridge strategy and hands-on implementation. You’ll be responsible for building and evolving the organisation’s cybersecurity strategy and ensuring it aligns with international standards like NIST and ISO/IEC 27001.
While there’s a strong focus on policy development, risk assessment, and governance, you’ll also stay close to the technology — working alongside engineers, guiding secure architecture decisions, and overseeing operational security practices following a major integration with a research organisation in July.
The role offers scope to shape security culture from the ground up, collaborate closely with stakeholders across research institutions, and provide security leadership that enables trusted, high-performance digital services.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- A strong focus on security policy, governance, and risk.
- Working with experienced engineers
- Analysing risk profiles for major integration with a research organisation
Benefits
- 4 weeks leave (with an additional 3 days between Christmas and New Year)
- Southern Cross Insurance
- Flexible Working Arrangements
- Generous Phone Allowance
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong technical background in network or infrastructure security
- Proven experience in policy development and risk frameworks
- Sector experience in Research or Education
