About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join its Digital Services team in a critical, newly created role. This position is focused on managing and evolving our Azure cloud environment to ensure it remains robust, secure, and aligned with our client’s mission. 

As a Systems Engineer, you will oversee all Azure services and drive initiatives to modernise their cloud environment. You will collaborate closely with internal teams—Support Services, Development Services, and Data Services—as well as their external Cloud Service Provider to develop a secure, resilient, and cost-effective infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimise Azure services, ensuring a secure and efficient cloud infrastructure.
  • Drive improvements in system architecture with a focus on scalability, security, and compliance with New Zealand health data guidelines.
  • Champion identity and access management best practices, including implementing secure authentication protocols.
  • Integrate Intune and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions to enhance user security and productivity.
  • Mentor Support Agents and Desktop Support Analysts, fostering first-level resolution of cases.
  • Lead automation initiatives to streamline operations and improve reliability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align Azure services with business objectives.
  • Monitor Azure resources using tools like Azure Monitor, Cost Management, and Security Centre for infrastructure planning and optimisation.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, relevant legislation, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation to enable knowledge sharing and operational continuity.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure administration, security, or cloud infrastructure management.
  • 5+ years of experience managing Azure environments, including virtual networks, Azure AD, Intune, and identity management.
  • Expertise in implementing security best practices and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimise cloud environments for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in the health sector or with sensitive data
  • Automation and scripting experience using tools like PowerShell or Azure CLI.
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning expertise.
