About the role:

The Sector Digital Channels team champions the modernisation of national services. The focus is on delivering cost-effective and user-friendly digital solutions. This includes expanding self-service options and assisted channels, alongside automating processes to reduce pressure on staff.
The Principal Advisor for Self-Service Channels promotes and integrates self-service options into existing systems, ensuring they’re accessible, user-friendly, and valuable. The Principal Advisor’s expertise in web and mobile technologies allows them to improve existing self-service channels and identify opportunities for new ones, both internally and externally.
This role requires working within a 24/7 environment that serves communities across New Zealand. The Principal Advisor manages a complex technological environment supporting numerous users and critical applications.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record of using strategic thinking and critical analysis to develop solutions and provide insightful advice.
  • Expertise in using advanced Excel and reporting tools to create clear and concise reports, both numerical and written.
  • Extensive experience reviewing complex data and reports in a Principal Advisor role, then translating them into clear and targeted messages for different audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong business plans and financial forecasts, develop performance measures, analyse data, and drive performance improvement initiatives across the organisation.
  • Solid understanding of government structures and processes, particularly planning and performance functions.
  • Strong critical thinking and judgment skills, including the ability to research, analyse information, develop options, and think strategically.
