Types of Work
Absolute IT offers different work types to fit your lifestyle. We can help you find roles across two types of work: permanent and contract positions. We’re often asked about the difference between these types of employment, and we’re here to help.
Permanent Employment
When you are hired for permanent employment it means there is no time limit or otherwise on your employment contract. Instead, the contract carries on until you, or your employer decides to terminate it. With permanent employment, you contractually agree to work for your chosen employer for a specific amount of guaranteed hours, on an ongoing basis.
With this type of work, you have the full set of rights and responsibilities set out under New Zealand law. You can be employed on either a full-time or part-time permanent basis.
Permanent employees have to meet certain criteria to qualify for some employment entitlements, such as parental leave, parental leave payments, annual holidays, sick leave and bereavement leave. There may be small differences between full-time or part-time employees because of their work patterns.
At Absolute IT, we work with employers across the country to help them find permanent employees for their business.
Contractors
A Contractor is a person engaged by a principal (the other party – i.e. a business) to perform services under a contract for services. Businesses have many reasons for hiring contractors, but it is often, for example, because the work requiring completion is project-based, or has a defined end state or timeframe.
If you are a Contractor, then you are self-employed.
Contractors earn their income by invoicing a company for their services. As a Contractor, you are responsible for paying your own taxes and ACC levies, and you are not covered by most employment related laws. Contractors are typically not entitled to employment benefits such as sick leave or annual leave.
If you’d like to explore the world of contracting, speak to one of our team. We’ll be able to connect you with some incredible contract opportunities in the market.
