Data Engineer

• 2–3 days per week (16–24 hours), flexible part-time contract
• Advanced Azure stack: ADF, Synapse, T-SQL, Dimensional Modelling
• Hourly rate $120 / market rate depending on experience

About the Organisation
Our client is a well-established enterprise operating in a complex, data-rich environment. They are currently undertaking a strategic uplift of their data platform and require specialist engineering support to accelerate delivery.

About the Role
This is a part-time contract opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer to contribute to the development and optimisation of a modern Azure-based data platform. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and technical leads to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that support business intelligence and analytics for initially 6 months. 

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory
• Develop and optimise SQL queries within Azure Synapse Analytics (Dedicated SQL Pool)
• Apply advanced T-SQL techniques for data transformation and modelling
• Support the development of dimensional models using frameworks or accelerators
• Collaborate with BI teams to align engineering outputs with reporting needs
• Contribute to semantic model design (Power BI) where applicable

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience with Azure Data Factory and Synapse Analytics
• Strong proficiency in advanced T-SQL and performance tuning
• Familiarity with dimensional modelling frameworks or accelerators
• Bonus: Experience with Power BI Semantic Model
• Nice to have: Background in logistics or freight industries
